“Man Without a Star” tells the story of Dempsey Rae, a drifting cowboy in 1880s Wyoming, who finds himself caught between a powerful ranch owner, Reed Bowman, and the smaller ranchers she threatens. Dempsey, who dislikes the concept of fencing and open range, initially works for Bowman but ultimately sides with the ranchers fighting against her expansionist plans, even though it means fighting for something he initially opposed: barbed wire.
